Waiting to Die

Last night I went to visit my mom,  She has been placed in a place called Care West to get rehabilited to be able to come back home. During my visit last night, i realized that my mom just doesn’t care anymore.  Yes she wants to go home, but she doesn’t want or care to work hard to get there.  She has given up…. given up on life… given up on any hope there is to get better… given up on everything.   Maybe i’m over reacting, but the way i see it, is she has faced the fact that she is going to die, and she is just waiting for it to happen.
Last night my mom said to me, when i die, you get one of my wedding rings, and your sister gets the other.  Even after telling her, she should be wearing her wedding rings.  She just says no keep […]

This was written back when people used pay phones. And calls cost .10 cents.

November rots. Rots like the jack-o-lantern decomposing on my porch. Or as my 7-year-old daughter would say, it sucks eggs. I know I’m *supposed* to be all grateful and thankful for each and every particle of air I inhale like everyone else seems to be in November. But November brings out the spoiled brat in me, the me that wants to have a tantrum fitting a 2-year-old when they aren’t getting their way or want something, complete with throwing myself on the floor, pounding my fists and kicking my feet. My family has experienced great loss and trauma in November, and as rational and positive as I can be about the cycle of life, sometimes I care as much about being rational and in control of my emotions as I do about why oh WHY Jennifer Aniston isn’t married yet.
That being said, sometimes […]

EB in the Hill Country: Day 2, Pt. 2.

This was a video of EB’s dinner last night.  I love how there’s rap playing in the background because Gram Gram knows how much EB likes to dance to it.  And Gram Gram is a much better cook than me, so look who’s eating without a fight.  I love how she give a bite to Petunia (the lab) and tells her bite.  Those are the things I love about this video update while she’s away this week.  You’re free to tell me what you love about it in the comments (wink).

That’s my girl,

A beautiful birthday

Today is my Mom’s 50th birthday.
I’m not entirely sure how she feels about it, but I think she’s 50 and fabulous!
Happy Birthday to the most beautiful woman I know, inside and out.
Love you, Mom.

Pink and White Flowers

I really love the soft tones in this still life and the way Mom was able to paint the reflections on the glass pitcher and still maintain a subdued effect.
This painting is displayed in her husband, Jerry Pyburn’s home, and I believe it was originally painted for his mother, Edith Pyburn.

Mom Would Not Stand by and Watch a Boy Being Raped

Apathy, Fear, No Integrity

Jerry Sandusky, I know, it's blank, but I'm tired of looking at him.

Many years ago dozens of people stood by helplessly in New York City and did nothing to keep a girl from being raped and murdered. People walked by as if it were a daily occurrence. And neighbors watched. The outcry against apathy was heard far and wide.
Recently a boy was seen being raped by Jerry Sandusky, who was a former coach at Penn State. The witness, Mike McQueary, a hulking ex-football player walked by. He reported it to his father. His father said to report it to Joe Paterno (Frankly this action indicates there was an expectation of a cover-up). The son should have said with the same voice that he barked signals while playing quarterback at Penn State, “Hey you! Stop it, now! I’m calling the police, now!”

Coach Mike McQueary should have called out like the […]

I can’t even walk and chew gum at the same time…

I can’t even walk and chew gum at the same time…and juggling life issues is something I really can hope to stop doing someday.
Looking at people 5 times my size on the bus this morning and wondering what can I do to move far away from my current size, outside of sewing my mouth shut… I am writing down and counting calories, but looking at fellow passengers on a bus at 5:40 am, well, makes you question metabolism, sleep and a “hurry up and eat or you’ll be late” mechanism.
Just got off the phone with my brother Bob talking about Mom and family issues.
**sigh**
Trying to keep my life at home going at an even keel.
Trying to recover from Saturday’s fall.
“The job”.**sigh**
Zush and Kasia on Benadryl.
I guess you just keeping juggling until you drop something, right?Guess I just have to go out and get some fresh velcro for my hands to […]

Wordless Wednesday: Cookies

Over the weekend we made some of our favorite cookies of my mom’s. It was fun and delish! Hopefully we’ll get to make some more next weekend when my brother’s back in town!  This was extra-appropriate for this week’s Wordless Wednesday theme: Gratitude.
I’m grateful for loved ones who I can enjoy a good day with, who love Pip and whom she loves, for happy traditions, for yummy biscottis, and for my mom, for everything.

Attachment Parenting

While pregnant with our first daughter, Daisy,  I did some research and fell in LOVE with the attachment parenting model.
You have no idea how wonderful, rewarding, and beneficial it has been to ALL of us.
Attachment Parenting is basically the oposite of what everyone tells you to do lol.  ”Let them cry themselves to sleep! Give them every vaccine!  Put them in their own bed right away!  Spank! Yell! Show em who’s boss!”
None of this felt natural to us and I’m so glad we’ve found an alternative.
Eight principles of attachment parenting
Per Dr. Sears’ theory of attachment parenting (AP), proponents such as the API attempt to foster a secure bond with their children by promoting eight principles which are identified as goals for parents to strive for. These eight principles are:

Preparation for Pregnancy, Birth and Parenting
Feed with Love and Respect
Respond with Sensitivity
Use Nurturing Touch
Ensure Safe Sleep, Physically and Emotionally
Provide Consistent Loving Care
Practice Positive […]
